DEVELOPING A ROAD SAFETY MASTER PLAN AND A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (RSM)

In Thailand there are roughly two deaths every hour due to road accidents.  In one year this amounts to 18,000 fatalities and a large number of injuries and damages.  Economic cost of road accidents is estimated at over 100,000 million Baht in 1993 or about 3.4% of the GNP.  The Study looks into formulation of Road Safety Master Plan which will guide road safety activities among many agencies involved through future years.

Detailed Description of Actual Services provided :

The Road Safety Master Plan which outlines the structure of various improvement programmes over a five year period was proposed.  The cost of the programme amounts to 9,850 million Baht.  A more urgent activity in the Master Plan was also presented in the Road Safety Action Plan.  The proposed programmes cover the following areas of work :

  • Road Safety Economy, Policy and Organization
  • Legislation and Law Enforcement
  • Accident Analysis and Research
  • Driver Training and Licensing
  • Traffic Training in schools
  • Public Information
  • Vehicle Safety
  • Infrastructure
  • Emergency Treatment of Accident Victims
